There and back again.

20 May

This morning, at 4 AM, while the surrounding world slept, I brought Cece back to the airport. A week earlier I’d picked her up at the same gate. Both the greeting and the goodbye were short. It’s good to be short, I think. It seems like long farewells are for last speeches, and this was, hopefully, not the last.

Drove home. Tired. Wearing the SOUTH OF THE BORDER shirt I’d gone mini-golfing in yesterday, and the empty intersections seem strange and dreamlike. The hanging green light, a glowing orb, stark against the night; blacker as it goes on, reaching beyond the town and last traces of light pollution. I like it here. I like it, right off the highway, blocks from the airport. I like the shops that close at six and the ever-ready Waffle House. I like that we’re the eternal road trip stop.

I’m writing this entry in my head as I pull into the driveway. I turn off The Love Language; kill the headlights. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so tired. We’ve been going full steam for days. Put my head against the steering wheel, close my eyes, just for a minute.

This won’t be written in any obvious order. It’s more a collection of thoughts than a story. It’s just how I feel right now.

Cezanne, when I first saw her, looks more a Cezanne than a Ceec, a Cece, a Cez. She is slightly taller than me and a good deal skinnier, with long raven hair that she twists when she is shy or nervous. She looks nothing like her pictures when she smiles or talks, but exactly like them when her mouth is closed and she’s thinking. The first two days we make friendly and polite conversation. She apologizes for needing to use my hairdryer. It’s fine. I hope my kids aren’t too loud. They aren’t. We have breaks in our discussion where we just sit and look at each other, and make anxious noises, like that chuckle-giggle where you rack your mind for the next topic.

By the third morning, she opens her door and we are BFF. “You won’t believe the dream I had!” she gasps, and I’m all, “ME TOO! Let me tell you about mine after yours! And does your mouth taste weird?” and she’s all, “YEAH. Is there any pizza leftover?” and I’m all,

PIZZA!” and we talk over each other, blah blah blah, fast; like speeding trains of thought colliding. When we sit next to each other, we sit NEXT to each other, so our elbows bump together when we watch TV. By the last day, we’re good enough friends to ignore the other. She goes out on the back porch to talk to Jhon for a half hour, and I sit in the living room writing on my laptop. It’s comfortable.

Monday, Michelle and my mom come. Michelle is getting over a sickness which apparently infected the rest of the Virginia family. We all go out to the mall. Michelle is hilarious. Michelle tells us that my mom doesn’t think she’s as funny as I make her out to be in entries. Cece thinks Michelle is that funny. What Ceec thinks about Michelle: her delivery is perfect, she’s thinner in real life, and her boobs are “incredible”.

(Michelle’s reply: “Yeah, you can’t turn this off!”)

My mom is my mom: sweet, funny, kind, and the Straight Man to our jokes. She buys us matching tie headbands. I miss them both so much it hurts. The day is sunny and bright. The kids play near the mall fountain while Shelly and Mom pick out a vegan dinner for the night. Pesto pasta.

They prepare it later in my kitchen. I take bad pictures with my new camera. I still kind of suck with it.

Shelly and Mom leave after dinner for the (very) long ride home. My mom gets sick on the way back. It takes them five hours due to frequent stops. I feel horrible: had no clue that would happen, and while I love their company, would not have invited them if I knew it was a possibility.

We spend a lot of the visit reading Cece’s forums and discussing The Drama on it. “So much DRAMA,” we sigh at each other.

We also eat a lot of Domino’s pizza. Or breadsticks for me, with marinara sauce. Or cheesybread for Cece, with ranch dressing. Okay. We don’t really eat any actual pizza.

I’ve become borderline-obsessed with “The Office” this month, and have converted Ceec as well. We watched the season finale together.

BECCA: Ohhh, he’s gonna walk in while she’s talking– I’m calling it!–

TV: Pam!– Oh, sorry… Are you free for dinner tonight?

CEEC: AW!

BECCA: AW!

TV: Yes… All right…then it’s a date.

CEEC: Oh my God! Jim and Pam got together!

BECCA: I totally called it!

TV: … I’m sorry. What was your question?

Team Beesley!

(And yes, I might be going to the convention. And when I say might, I mean almost for positive.)

Jason works late every night on an autonomy project (longest was a 21-hour shift: 8 AM to 5 AM), and takes Friday off. We decide to go to the beach.

Go out and buy bathing suits for the kids and J. I thought I was one of those moms who thought toddlers in bikinis are skanky, but I guess I’m not. Addie’s is pink with white crochet. IT IS SO CUTE. Decide on Wrightsville Beach, since it’s the closest and has the best weather. 70 degrees when we get there. Patches of cloud, patches of sunshine.

I didn’t think I was a beach person. Really, to my recollection, neither Jason or I liked beaches. We were going mostly for the kids, and because it was something we’d never done together. So it was a huge surprise when everyone had a good time. It was– wonderful. It was sandcastles, Addie running for the water’s edge, the faint smell of suntan lotion, seagulls overhead, Jason putting Eli on his shoulders and letting the waves crash over them, messages in the sand, the shifting surf. The next morning we looked online for beach houses, just in case we won the lottery. Good to be prepared.

Also: all that Dominos? Plus bikinis? Not. feeling. so. sexy. We kept our shirts on the whole beach trip, and, judging by the pics, I should have kept the shorts on too. BOO. I made a promise to myself to start exercising along with the vegan diet, because I’m not allowing myself another beach or pool outing in anything but swimsuit.

Yesterday we went to this place called Frankie’s. I’d never been before– it was a huge entertainment center; with climbing nets, arcade games, go karts, rides, and miniature golf. Golf was fun. We didn’t keep score. We didn’t need to: Jason won, and Eli didn’t get the game. Addie lost her ball in the bushes six times. Up next: bumper boats.

So, we’re hanging out in line, and this kid– maybe 10– gets in his boat and starts spraying everyone who’s waiting. He soaks the front of my shirt. The whole line of people is like, “CUT IT OUT!” This kid is just pointing and laughing, all sinister and obnoxious. And spraying. Okay. Strike one.

Part of me feels bad for targeting him (because, hey, he’s over a decade younger), but then they blow the whistle and he aims his jet at Addie, who sobs hysterically when the water hits her, and STRIKE TWO. AND THREE. YOU ARE OUT KID. I manage to do a decent job of steering the boat and we totally soak that kid. He’s angry, It’s not funny when it happens to me!

After we get off, Jason says he and Eli got him pinned and sprayed him too. Then I feel kind of bad. Then I look at Addie again, who cried so hard she got hiccups, and I kind of don’t.

Ceec and I go on the Sky Glider, which looks kind of lame and Kindergarten, until we get on it and then suddenly we’re two stories in the air and going backwards and I feel like I’m going to throw up. Cece is laughing really hard next to me, and I start laughing, and we try to wave at Jason on the ground. And then I try to gesture to Jason to TURN AROUND!, Elias is climbing that utility pole! And we spin in big, swooping circles through the air, and it’s awesome.

The adults decided to stay up all night and watch movies, all the way until 4 AM when Ceec had to leave for the airport. We pick out the Worst Movie Ever: ‘The Truth About Love‘. It’s so bad it’s good. Or maybe just bad. If you need reason to see this film, here it is– Jennifer Love Hewitt has phone sex; except it is less sexy than you would think, and even if you think it would be completely unsexy, it’s less sexy than THAT, because she does it in a fake stilted British accent and drops her voice to Man Level. I fall asleep with five minutes left in the film.

Have a terrible nightmare wherein my father dies and our house is surrounded by drug lords who fire guns at the walls and windows. (This is partly the fault of the insanely good “CSI: NY” season finale. Oh em gee. Hands-down the best finale so far.) Wake up. Glad to be awake. Take Ceec to the plane.

She was a perfect guest. By the way. She cleaned up the dishes, asked before taking anything (even getting a drink), offered to watch the kids so I could sleep, and was up for any outing. All my girlfriends are great houseguests. I’ve ended up with the best ones, honestly.

Miss her already. Elias misses her too. He had the official role of Cezanne Announcer; and would walk around the house, “Cici is wakin’ up! Cici gonna eat bweakfast! Cece is in da bafwoom! Cici went owtside!” All. day.

I don’t know what else to say. Feeling a little sick, and very tired, and completely out of paragraph material. Inspiration over. Story done.

I have a favor to ask of anyone who makes it this far, and that is just for you to comment and say, “Hi! I’m reading! And I’m NOT CRAZY.” Ceec and I had a handful of discussions and shared stories this week about Who’s Out There Online, and it’s been weighing on my mind. Even a year or two ago, I knew most of the visitors to this site– now it’s about five percent. It would just be nice to attach a name to the people who are looking at my pictures and reading about my life. Heh. Fair deal? Let’s hope.

    Hi Becca!

I’ve commented once before, but not certain you remember

I’m Jamie, 23, married, mommy to one year old Audrey, criminal law paralegal, live in Illinois.

I stumbled across your site when my daughter was in the NICU last spring. It was so inspiring at the time to read your experience and see how healthy Addie was. My little girl is doing remarkable as well now.

Anyway, I keep coming back because you’re an awesome writer. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Wow- this comment was long. Just wanted to delurk.

    Jamie

I keep coming back because you are an amazing writer, and person. The whole package. =)

I read every single one of your entries, to the very bottem. I love it!

  3. Katie May 20, 2007 at 7:21 pm #

Hi, Becca! I’ve been keeping up with your blog ever since you started posting at Cici’s forum. I got to the end where you asked for the readers to comment – so I did!

  4. Meggan May 20, 2007 at 7:26 pm #

I’m reading and I’m not crazy. But I think you knew that already. :D

So glad your weekend was awesome. I went on a company retreat this weekend and it was much more fun than I expected. Yay!

  5. ceec May 20, 2007 at 7:27 pm #

    Hi! Heart you!

You: So — about the beach — I think I’m going to be keeping the tank top ON.

Me: Um — yeah — there’s no way this shirt is coming off.

You: REALLY? Okay, GOOD. Thank God.

    Me: :D

    You: :D

I do play with my hair, and it drives me crazy when I see people doing it in interviews or on TV — I’m like — GOD, THAT IS ANNOYING AS EVER, STOP FIDGETING — but… well… I can see why they do it.

Just — um — hearts and love, that’s really all I have to add to this.

    Hi Becca!

I’m Rachelle – 27 – live in LA. Mommy to a 15 month old baby girl, and I LOVE your writing! I found you through Margo’s (my sil) blog. I check for a new post every day. So yeah… I’m a stalker. : ) Thanks for sharing your life with everyone “out there on-line!” You bring smiles to my face every time I visit!

  7. Liz May 20, 2007 at 7:36 pm #

I feel bad about the drama. I’m glad you guys had so much fun, I’m jealous.

  8. L May 20, 2007 at 7:41 pm #

Hehe, well you probably remember me since I comment all the time. I’m not a stalker, I promise. Or crazy :3 Anyway…

I’m Lyndall, 23 this year, I live in South Australia in a tiny shoebox flat with my partner of 5+ years (it feels weird to call him a boyfriend after so long :p) and our cat. I’m doing my English PhD at Adelaide University (I’m typing this in my office at uni right now– Productive! Heh).

I honestly can’t remember how I found your site but I think it was just from a link on some random person’s blog. I started reading just before you moved into your new house. I love how you share your life with us all, and I love reading your entries.

i’m not crazy. but sometimes, i wish i was. I mean, it might be easier to accept certain aspects of life if i was certifiably insane.
i have a wonderful two year old redhead named allie. i have a hilarious husband named allie. i am a chemistry and biology double major. i can’t wait to be an OB/GYN so I can deliver babies and counsel pregnant women to some degree. i dabble in writing and crafts and reading. and anything else, because i cannot sit still and must be doing a multitude of things in one sitting.
Also, the OFFICE is SOOO awesome. you should visit youtube because several people have put together funny clips into little videos.

  10. Liz May 20, 2007 at 7:45 pm #

P.S. I’m not crazy. I’m just a little unwell. That song is so damn annoying I can’t believe I just quoted it.

    Sigh.

I think you know enough about me. I will tell you something else!

We just got a baby pug. He’s adorable.

  11. leigh May 20, 2007 at 7:51 pm #

  13. Bobbi May 20, 2007 at 8:03 pm #

Hey Becca! I’m Bobbi, we messaged through Vox a couple times about a month ago :)

Sounds like you guys had fun – it’s crazy, I have visited Ceec’s sites for a long time and I’ve never talked to her or anything. I just enjoyed reading whatever she had to say (same with you!).

Anyway, glad you guys had fun! And BOO that little kid squirting Addie. I wanted to hit him through my computer screen for her, poor kid.

  14. Sarah May 20, 2007 at 8:04 pm #

I typed all of it out. Hit submit. And just a lil bit posted..

  15. Laura May 20, 2007 at 8:09 pm #

I had all these random thoughts while reading your entry but I’m just so tired they floated away…

So, I’ll just stick to addressing the last part… I’m Laura, 21, mommy, live in Nebraska… I’ve read your site for a long, long time now. I have also had my own blog on and off since I was 15. I admire your writing abilities and the ease with which everything you write flows and I love the way you tell stories…. I’m an aspiring writer myself (well sometimes, it’s an on and off thing) so I really love it.

ok, i feel like a hallmark card or something.

  16. Caroline May 20, 2007 at 8:11 pm #

Hi Becca. I found your site a couple days after you had Addie. I believe I found the link through kissable.org and the writer of the blog (I forgot who owns it) said to say a little prayer for you. After that, for about 6 months or something, I read your site daily.

Then, with a mix between my computer dying on me (and losing all my faves) and just busy school life, I stopped reading. Then a month? or two ago (I’m really bad w/ time) , I came upon your site again. I was surprised to see all the changes in your life. New house, new state, healthy, beautiful baby (Addie got so big during that period of my absence). Now I’m back to reading your site and enjoy your writing. You make me wish I was a young mom :( Anyways, keep it up!

  17. Kimberly May 20, 2007 at 8:18 pm #

hey! I’m still reading you, have been for almost 2 yrs now I think. I’ve loved watching the transition from VA to your new home. Gives me hope I’ll get out of the beltway someday too. :-)

  18. Shellie May 20, 2007 at 8:32 pm #

Hey Becca! I love reading your entries and love hearing all the Eli conversations – those always crack me up. Little Addie is adorable! They both are. Just thought I would post a comment and say that I do read!!!

  19. Bianca May 20, 2007 at 8:44 pm #

Aw, this entry made me smile ! It’s so nice to have that one special friend where you can giggle and shriek with. I miss that with my good friend :( . When you don’t have that, you really do cherish it when it happens. And I sound so damn corny right now but it’s SO true !!

Love ya and I’m glad you had a great time :)

  20. Courtney May 20, 2007 at 8:44 pm #

Hey there, ho there Becca! I was so glad to have a nice, long entry to read from you today! I was having withdrawls during your week away.

Did you send your sponsored child intro letter yet? I just got mine off in the mail last Monday…you know, the day the postage rates went up. Because my timing is just THAT good. :)

  21. Laura May 20, 2007 at 9:20 pm #

    Hi Becca,

I’ve commented a few times in the past couple years, though maybe not enough for you to know/remember me. I have a livejournal that is nowhere near as cool as your site and doesn’t include pictures, but that you’re totally welcome to read if you ever actually have time. (I included the link above.) ACTUALLY! If you’re curious enough for pictures, I do have a bunch on Kodak’s web site, I’d just have to email you an invite. I know there’s a bazillion more readers so it’s impossible for you to know everyone very well . . . so it’s ok if you’re too busy, but I thought I’d offer.

    =D

    Here’s wishing you the best!

  22. auds May 20, 2007 at 9:30 pm #

Hi Becca, I’d like to tell you I’m not crazy, but with recent events it’d be just a bit of a lie. ;)

  23. DasDaddy May 20, 2007 at 9:44 pm #

DasDaddy (who did NOT die in a shoot out with evil drug lords!) reads DasBecca and believes her and her family may actually be real people somewhere in the United States. (‘Corse, he thinks he is a pirate on occasion too – so go figure!)

Oh, and crazy?… Yah. Sadly so.

    Auds is crazy.

  24. andrea May 20, 2007 at 9:46 pm #

  27. Madmilla May 20, 2007 at 10:29 pm #

My name is Manda. I am 32. Live in Iowa. Have 2 kids. Madeline is 6 (born in January) and my Eli (just Eli) is 4 (born in April). I found your site through babycenter a few days after Addie was born and have been hooked every since. My hubby laughs at me when I comment on your life as if I know you. “Becca did this. Becca did that. Listen to this hilarious conversation between Becca and Michelle.” I do have friends in real life. I swear! Lol!

  33. ceec May 21, 2007 at 2:18 am #

Uh, I just realized my comment made it kind of sound like you were like, “THANK GOD YOU’RE KEEPING THAT SHIRT ON, FATTY” but it was a, “Thank God I won’t be alone with a shirt on while everyone else is practically naked” type of thank God.

Heh. Clarifying is good for the soul, much like chicken soup.

    I’m here, of course.

Whether or not I’m sane is entirely debatable.

But really, I haven’t seen you since Eli’s birthday and I’m going through withdrawal. Like, hardcore. I have the shakes and everything. It’s ridiculous.

And I’d better be part of the 5%. :) xx.

  43. A Girl Gone Mad May 21, 2007 at 8:53 am #

P.S. Is Ceec really from Sacramento? Because that would be insanely weird and awesome.

  44. Alissa May 21, 2007 at 9:08 am #

Hi Becca!! I still read :D Not sure if you remember me when Addie was born? I’ve only posted every now and then. Anyhow, it’s great to hear you had such an awesome week with Ceec!! Those little houses on the golf course were so cute and Addie’s bathing suit? Oh gosh!! I wish I was that tiny again, little kids clothes are always so adorable!

  47. Diana May 21, 2007 at 11:17 am #

I’m Diana, from South America (Venezuela.) I know I’ve been reading since Addie’s birth ’cause Yajaira mentioned it and I clicked the link and been visiting ever since. Time flies by.

I’m 25, work at a brokerage firm, I’m single. I’ve even talked to your Dad a couple of times when he had his blog, and asked him for tips on visiting DC (which I did on Spring Break.)

Btw, I usually get an email when there’s a new entry here but pretty sure I didn’t get one for this entry. Just lettin’ you know. :)

I’m Sarah, I’m 22 and I live in England although mentally I still live in Charleston SC (where I spent 5 months studying last year).

I found your site ages ago through kissable.org and now you’re one of the few sites I check daily – your entries are so much fun to read and your family is adorable :)

Ive been reading since June of 05, your hilarious, i like your stories i like reading about how you get up and do some of the same things i do everyday but make it seem interesting, i like the stories about the kids theyre adorable. I dont comment alot only because I usually dont know what to say or dont have anything to say. But I read everyday and since you mentioned it im not a crazy stalker I made 15,000 dollars last year thats not enough money to be all crazy stalker like. I just like reading, your like my internet friend that doesnt know I exist.. haha

  51. Steph May 21, 2007 at 2:34 pm #

Yeah, love your website, not much of a commenter-don’t think I’ve commented before. LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEEDDDD the CSI:NY finale. Great!

  52. Anna May 21, 2007 at 4:34 pm #

Hi! I’m Anna, I’ve commented a bunch before but probably not enough to be really memorable. I am crazy though. But not in a bad ‘lock her up and throw away the key’ kinda way. It’s more ‘oh, she’s blond *nudge, nudge*’ kinda way. I’m safe, I swear.

    ;)

  53. Jamie May 21, 2007 at 4:37 pm #

Hey Becca – I read it. I’m not crazy!

I’m 23 and live in Florida. I’ve been reading since maybe when you got pregnant with Addie? I don’t remember now. I read often, comment not so much, half the time I think that if I write, I’ll sound like a dolt so I don’t.

What keeps me hooked is your knack for writing and your beautiful family :)

  54. Jenny May 21, 2007 at 4:42 pm #

    Hi Becca,
I’m Jen. I’ve commented a few times before but not sure if you remember me. I am in my 30′s, married, live in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN and have 2 kids (boy and girl). You remind me so much of myself when I first got married.

You have such a wonderful way with words. I love reading about the cute and funny things Elias says. Addie is just too cute and seems like such a little sweetie. You have a beautiful family and you seem like such a wonderful mom. :)

  55. Rhona May 21, 2007 at 4:55 pm #

I think I’ve commented a few times, but I’m Rhona! I live in Indianapolis, I’m 21, I live with my boyfriend and his friend and I have two kitties :) . I’m going to school for communication studies as well.

  56. Susan May 21, 2007 at 5:12 pm #

Hi Becca! I’m Susan from Richmond, VA. I’ve commented a few times before but I’m a pretty quiet person generally. I have been reading your blog since Addie was born and reading about your wonderful family always makes my day brighter. Thanks for writing!

Oh, and my husband is totally jealous of your new camera. He’s wanted one of those for a long time since he’s the photographer in the relationship. He reminds me of you when he’s always gotta have his camera with him. Even if we’re just going to the store he’s all “Should we take the camera? Something awesome could happen and I have to capture it.” I can’t imagine how he’ll deal when we have kids to take pictures of! ;-)

  57. Adrienne May 21, 2007 at 5:24 pm #

I am here. Still reading, obviously! :) I know we’ve talked before, emailed, and you’ve commented on my blog a few times, but in case you forgot:

    Adrienne

    32

    New Jersey

    2 boys, ages 4 and 2

    CRAZY.

  58. Adrienne May 21, 2007 at 5:25 pm #

Of course you know I meant that in the “I’ve got 2 kids” kinda crazy…

I’ll not stalk you as long as you don’t stalk me. Deal?

    Hee.

  59. Jennifer May 21, 2007 at 6:56 pm #

Hi, I’m Jennifer and I live in Northwest Arkansas. I’m 28, single, and have a very spoiled border collie. I work in a public library (so I’m very happy that you have your new library card!). I very rarely comment, but I love your site!

p.s. I love the Office too!

  60. Mandi May 21, 2007 at 7:12 pm #

I’m still here :) You’ll never get rid of me…bahahaha. I just stalk now unless I have something wise to say (and we know how often that is). BTW, I found two pieces of property near you that I sent to Dave , but land is expensive! Might as well buy two houses for what 2 acres would cost. Blah!

  61. Bex May 21, 2007 at 7:21 pm #

Hey Becca :) I’ve commented before.. but in case you didn’t know, I’m not crazy. Hee.

I’m confused, did you and Ceec meet online first?

  62. Chelle May 21, 2007 at 8:14 pm #

Hi Becca! I’m glad you had so much fun. I’m looking forward to coming by when my fiancee and us go on our road trip in the summer. I’ll email you in a couple weeks to make plans. I hope you still remember the email I sent a while ago about this visit, or else I’ll feel really dumb right now.

  63. Amelia May 21, 2007 at 8:38 pm #

Hi, I read. I can’t assure you that I’m not creepy though.

  64. Amelia May 21, 2007 at 8:40 pm #

Oops, I think I did that twice. My B.

  65. Jennie May 21, 2007 at 8:58 pm #

I’m reading. I am slightly crazy due to lack of sleep and school, but I am reading. I’m also so JEALOUS! I went to Wrightsville in April when it was freezing cold in NC (I bring the cold wherever I visit) and it was so beautiful. My goal is to visit there once every other month after I move out to the east coast. And to go camping! Or just move into my friend’s dorm apartment and pretend to go to UNCW… I adore the beach.

  66. Becky May 22, 2007 at 3:29 am #

Hey Becca! Its Becky (aka Becky Jo). I haven’t heard from you in a while but I wanted to leave you a comment and let you know that I read your site all the time, mostly when I’m at work. I’ve admired your writing tho since probably about 8th grade…I still have some of the stories we wrote at your kitchen table about me and Brad Renfro :D

Anyway, I just wanted to come out of the shadows and say hello and thanks for sharing your life!

  67. teresa May 22, 2007 at 5:29 am #

Hi Becca. I read every post and have done since Addie was born. You sorted out my wordpress for me (which I’ve been seriously neglecting o_O ). Teresa, UK, two boys.

  68. Shannon May 22, 2007 at 6:37 am #

Hey Becca, I’m Shannon. I’ve commented a few times in the past. Oh, and I too might be going to The Office Convention! My 21st birthday present will either be going to Vegas with my mom or going to Scranton Pennsylvania to hang out with other “The Office” nerds, and I’m leaning toward the latter.

I really should comment here more. :)

  69. Leatitia May 22, 2007 at 6:57 am #

“Hi! I’m reading! And I’m NOT CRAZY.”

    Just a little.

  70. Elisa May 22, 2007 at 7:36 am #

Hey, I commented maybe 2 or 3 times before but I visit your site everyday! I’m from Belgium but you know what.. I AM crazy! Just so you know ;)

  71. Elisa May 22, 2007 at 7:37 am #

Oh – and my friends call me Eli sometimes =D

  72. Helen May 22, 2007 at 9:44 am #

Still here after a good few years. Staying put too, thanks. I may not always comment but I read religiously. After all this time your writing still keeps me coming back. You make me laugh, smile, cry… I just adore you :)

And you should check out the original Office. I know you’d probably like the British humour.

  73. alice May 22, 2007 at 12:02 pm #

    Hello Becca!

I have been reading since just before Addie was born, and I haven’t missed an entry since. The few days you were busy with Cici and couldn’t post almost killed me!

I keep coming back because you are so inpiring, I too would like to have a young family and I love to hear your tales of Elias and Addie. I also adore your photography, your eye for web design and your style of writing.

Years ago I used to blog, I had a domain (nicely.org) and I used to talk with Cici online quite often. Since I got engaged to my fiance, bought a house and got a dog I really haven’t had time to blog, and I kind of lost touch with the internets and all the great people on it. You inspired me to purchase a domain (thealice.co.uk) and although there isn’t a lot up there at the moment (I can’t seem to get my head around WordPress, I blogged in the Greymatter days) I hope to be blogging again soon.

And can I also say that you should DEFINITELY check out the British version of The Office. The original and best ;)

Anyway, Becca, don’t ever change. You are fabulous.

  74. Georgia May 22, 2007 at 4:37 pm #

Hi, I am reading! And am most likely VERY crazy.

Georgia….live in New Orleans (yes, it’s STILL an absolute mess down here. But I love it.) Make jewelry and own a retail business for a living…and have a BEE-U-TIFUL baby girl, Amaya Grace, who turns one tomorrow. I can’t believe I have a walking talking little PERSON now, and I can’t remember life without her. Except for maybe when I think of what it was like to be ready and out of the house in 15 minutes…or when I took an uninterrupted shower…I do sort of remember then! In any case…love ya. Love your site…have been reading and praying for you since Addie was born and in NICU. Love your family and love how you tell the story of your life. Thanks for sharing.

And P.S….I am SO glad you finally put some ads on here and make some income from all of your hard work. They are not at ALL offensive, and I love clicking on them knowing you get some moolah for all of your time spent. Don’t be afraid to put more on here…it’s no big deal. Just my two cents!

  75. Amy May 22, 2007 at 4:42 pm #

    Hi Becca!

My name is Amy, I’m 21 from Ontario, Canada.

I have been a fan of yours since just after Addie was born, I found your site through kissable.org, she was asking people to pray for Addie. I am glad that I did, since obviously everything has worked out for you and J.

I don’t have any children just yet, but when I do, I hope they will be just like yours, and that I can be as wonderful of a mother as you are.

I enjoy all of your updates, keep it up please as I am addicted!!

  76. Shannon May 22, 2007 at 4:49 pm #

hey, becca- i found your site when you began posting on the lucky forums. i’ve been a member there for awhile, and i loved reading both yours and cici’s descriptions of her visit. it sounds like you guys had a great time and i look forward to reading more of your writing.

  77. Jenn May 22, 2007 at 5:02 pm #

    Hi Becca!
I’ve commented here a few times, read religiously, and check out your Flickr off and on (and I think you’ve checked mine out too – kiss-my-kitty).

I’ll be 23 in just a few short weeks, I’m married and I have a little girl who is a week shy of being 31 months old, and a little boy who is a week shy of being 10 months old.

And I’m not crazy, I swear. I’ve had my fair share of psycho-internet-crazies on my tail, and having BTDT I would never, ever ever put somebody else through that. Besides, I’m too busy with my own life to stalk somebody else’s. :)

  78. Nicola May 22, 2007 at 6:28 pm #

Hello! My name is Nicola. I have been reading your site since Addie was born. I am 22 from Sydney, Australia. This is the first time I have ever commented, I figure I must suffer from some sort of internet shyness. heh :)

  79. N May 22, 2007 at 6:58 pm #

I stumbled here by accident recently.. It’s been fun visiting and I’ll be sure to drop by again..

    N

  80. Ally May 22, 2007 at 7:06 pm #

I’m totally not crazy, as far as I’m concerned!

I think I’ve commented.. ummm.. once before. But I read often, and visit your flickr every now and again (I’m ‘effigie’ over there, btw).

I’m 24 (25 on June 3rd, yay), live in South Carolina, and have a 2 year old daughter – Taylor.

  81. Rachael W May 22, 2007 at 8:59 pm #

I’ve commented before, but not in a while. I promise I’m not crazy yet, although the past three weeks have been enough to drive me around the bend. If only I had a time machine…

The basics: 21-year-old college senior (gah! already?), journalist, fiction writer, Spanish-speaker, native Californian who divides her time between NorCal (home) and SoCal (school). Also lived in Madrid for a while.

While I’ve only commented a few times, and those times rather recently, Erin S. directed me to your site back in September. So I’ve been reading for a while and I think your writing is amazing! I’m waiting for your novel to come out.
    :-)

  82. Shannon May 23, 2007 at 2:03 pm #

Something more than Hi. I’m reading and I’m not crazy? okay. So I guess I’m the other Shannon, I did see one above there. I have no idea how long I’ve been reading for now but I have commented a few times.

I’m twentyone, not married, not babied, but someday. I actually read from Newfoundland Canada. And I really don’t know what to say, I know I already told you, I’m the mental comment girl while I’m reading. haha (:

  83. Jaimi May 23, 2007 at 6:44 pm #

Hi! I read, not as regularly as I’d like (collllleggge…), but I thoroughly enjoy your writing! I’m 19, don’t know what in the world I’m doing with myself, and hail from a small suburb of Boston. Oh, and I found you via the Lucky boards! Also I’m not crazy. Hah.

  84. Dianna May 26, 2007 at 7:10 am #

I generally only comment here when you post these types of requests *blush*

Sometimes I just feel like I have nothing really useful to add.

Anyways, I’m Dianna. I live in Western Australia. I’m 29 *sigh*, married (5 years to a Jason too) and have a 3 and a bit year old son.

I love your photos and my son seems to think they’re of him… they look similar but not strikingly so! My son is just vain :P

    Anyway, that’s all from me!
